Based in Greensboro, N.C., Margaret Ritsch loves painting and creating mixed-media works that are rich with color and texture. She aims for her artwork to bring more beauty into the world and provoke a different way of seeing. Her subject matter ranges from landscapes and small florals to depictions of family members and color studies.
Rather than describe the natural world with accuracy, Margaret tries to capture its essence. In “Asheville Interrupted,” she has begun exploring the juxtaposition of natural beauty with the chaos resulting from climate-related natural disasters.
Oil and acrylic are her primary media, and currently she is most influenced by the paintings of Gerhard Richter and Wolf Kahn.
Before retiring in 2024, Margaret taught strategic communication at several universities, including Elon, and earlier worked in as a public relations practitioner for nonprofits, agencies and as a consultant.
Margaret has studied painting at the College of William and Mary, Sawtooth in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Technical Community College, the Center for Creative Aging, Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, and Fabrica Aurora in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
She is a member of the Center for Visual Artists in Greensboro, N.C. and will soon be exhibiting artwork at Marshall Muse Gallery in Greensboro, Sawtooth in Winston-Salem and Golden Antiques in Summerfield.
